Tunç Soyer, the Mayor of Izmir Metropolitan Municipality started his metro worksite examination with Narlıdere Metro. The initial concrete laying at Çağdaş Station of Narlıdere Metro that is being constructed with seven stations and two switch shaft was performed with the involvement of Mayor Soyer.

Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Tunç Soyer started his worksite examinations with Narlıdere Metro. Mayor Soyer went down the worksite of F. Altay – Narlıdere Metro that was contracted for TL 1 billion 27 million and the founded in last June, and examined the works. Mayor Soyer was accompanied by Balçova Mayor Fatma Çalkaya, Narlıdere Mayor Ali Engin, Secretary-General of Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Buğra Gökçe during his examinations. Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Tunç Soyer stated that the urban traffic will be relieved not only with seven stations on the line but also the car parks to be made at these stations when Narlıdere Metro is started to operate at the beginning of 2022. The concrete laying at the second station of Narlıdere Metro, namely Çağdaş was achieved while Mayor Soyer was at present. Within the scope of the project going on 30 meters under the surface, seven stations and two switch shafts has been under construction. The total length of the tunnel to be bored is reached 1024 meters.

Went down 30 meters from the surface

Mayor Tunçe Soyer walked through the construction site 30 meters under the surface said that “That is the work in which the technology is employed at a higher level and university students can come and see what they read from the books. In that sense, I think this is also a great opportunity for the universities.It is one kilometer of almost 7.2 kilometer line to be bored, and it is almost one in seven. It does not mean that one out of seven of the work is completed but it is at least a scale for the excavation.”

Izmir will be more comfortable

Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Tunç Soyer stated on the project that will be commissioned at the beginning of 2022 as; “The traffic in the city will be relaxed. The car parks at the stations will relax the traffic across the city instead of the line. People can leave their car at the station and continue to the trip with metro. Thus, the city will be more comfortable in terms of every aspect and residents have a higher comfort with an easier urban travel by the help of this work. At the moment, 750 people work and it will be 1,500 later. This is a risky and high pressure work, but still it is a very successful work and progresses quickly. I congratulate all my friends working here. God saves all. I hope that we complete on time and commission as we promise to the people of Izmir.”

Excavations started at seven stations

At the end of the construction period that was planned as forty two months, 7,2 kilometer tunnel will be opened with TBM (tunnel boring machine) as “deep tunnel”. The line consisting of seven stations will include Balçova, Çağdaş, Dokuz Eylül Üniversite Hastanesi, Güzel Sanatlar Fakültesi (GSF), Narlıdere, Şehitlik and Kaymakamlık stops. The construction works are under process in these seven stations and two switch shafts at full steam.
